Juan Carlos Salvatierra wins the FIM Rally World Cup over 450cc with Speedbrain
The 2013 rally season is in the books for the the Speedbrain Rally Team. Juan Carlos Salvatierra has clinched the FIM Cross Country Rally World Cup with yet another strong ride in Morocco. The 32-year-old Bolivian capped off his season winning the over 450cc category at the OiLybia Morocco this past Saturday, taking the title well ahead of his rivals.
"Chavo" laid the foundation before at the events in Abu Dhabi, Qatar, Italy, and started for the first time with Speedbrain at the Ruta 40 in Argentina. He won his class on three occassions and only missed out on the podium at Sardinia. Congratulations to the South American for bringing home the championship aboard his Speedbrain machine. Salvatierra will remain an essential part of the Speedbrain programme at the next Rally Dakar.
A familiar face to the team is Alessandro Botturi. The Italian offroad ace competed in Morocco for the Bavarian squad aboard his Speedbrain 450 Rally just like he did during this year´s Dakar. After six days and 2.000 kilometres Botturi finished the OiLybia in ninth place overall, following some navigational issues.
Meanwhile team newcomer Jeremias Israel, of Chile, was producing a solid debut. The former Motocrosser ended one stage on the podium and failed to close the rally inside the top ten only due to navigational trouble early on. He´s one to watch in the future.
The success of the Speedbrain outfit is the result of three hard years of work and development. Since entering the scene in 2011 at the Rally Dakar with factory support from BMW, the Bavarians have steadily been working and improving the in-house developed bike. The results were coming immediately, kept coming in 2012 when the bike was sporting Husqvarna colours, and were constantly impressive in 2013 under the Speedbrain brand.
The concept of the light, agile and fast race weapon proved always competitive, as the reliable machine turned heads whereever it showed up. Just now the Speedbrain Rally Team ended the FIM Cross Country Rally World Championship in third place in the constructor´s standings. By the way, both team and bike are EC-approved under the ISO 9001 certification.
Currently, another newcomer on a Speedbrain 450 Rally machine, Britain´s Oliver Lloyd is racing the Merzouga Rally also in Morocco. The rally privateer is racing for Team OWL.
The upcoming and much anticipated edition of the Rally Dakar in January will feature the Speedbrain Factory Customer team with five riders. Salvatierra, Israel und Botturi will then be joined by Portugal´s Pedro Oliveira and Italian Paolo Ceci.
